The Fast and the Furious films have undeniably gotten better with each new installment. It’s rare for an action franchise to improve with age, but somehow these films have beaten the odds. It may not be a coincidence that the car saga started really getting good when actress/ model Gal Gadot joined the series. She linked up to the Fast world when she portrayed Giselle in Fast & Furious, the fourth film released in the series.
At this point in your life do you consider yourself more of an actress or model?
Definitely more of an actress…much, much more an actress. I enjoy both, but I feel more satisfaction when I’m acting. I can give more of myself with acting.
Have you been able to take things from your modeling career and apply them to your acting career?
I think that modeling has a lot to do with acting. A model can’t just have a blank face. You have to act with your eyes and spirit. There is an energy you must play with. Modeling has definitely helped my performances.
Was it hard at first to convince people you were serious about transitioning to acting?
No, I don’t think so. Maybe people felt awkward at first seeing me on screen, but I never had any bad feedback. Everyone was very supportive.
What is the biggest challenge that faces you right now as an actress?
There aren’t enough good roles for strong women. I wish we had
more female writers. Most of the female characters you see in films
today are ‘the poor heartbroken girl.’ That’s why I’m so proud of the
Fast movies. I feel like Giselle is an empowering woman. I think I
speak for the majority of female actors when I say we need stronger
roles. My biggest challenge is to find more strong parts.
When you were cast in Fast & Furious, did you have any hesitation
or fears about appearing in a huge action film?
No, I enjoy the thrill. It’s not a Woody Allen movie but every film has its own adventures. The biggest adventure in the Fast movies for me is I can be a strong woman and show it in the stunt work I get to do.
Were you a fan of action movies before you were cast in the Fast
Yeah, I liked the Tomb Raider movies. I wasn’t hardcore about action
movies, but I enjoyed some of them before being a part of these
Fast Five was extremely well received. Was there a tremendous
amount of pressure put on the cast and crew to top it with Fast &
When we released the fifth one, the feedback was so good and it did
so well at the box office. When I was called to do the sixth film, I was thinking to myself… ‘we set the bar so high with five; how can we possibly top it with the sixth?’ I really believe we topped it with Fast & Furious 6. I think it’s going to be huge; it’s going to be like no other Fast movie.
Did you have a passion for cars prior to appearing in these films?
I didn’t before the Fast movies, but now I do. I’m really into cars now.
What kind of a driver are you?
I like the thrill of driving fast but I do take into consideration my safety and the other drivers’ safety…so I abide by the law.
Do you have a lot in common with Giselle?
We have a lot in common. Every role I do, I bring a lot of myself to it. So we have a lot in common in that sense.
Have you learned anything about yourself by portraying Giselle?
I haven’t learned anything new…but I realize to have positive results with anything you have to give all of yourself. We have such a
huge cast and everyone gives 1000%. I think the results have been
amazing because of that. When I go to work it’s important for me to
How many more Fast movies do you think you will make?
I don’t know. It depends on the scripts and the people involved.
Do you think these films have changed the way people perceive
you? Are you less a model now and more of an action heroine?
I do a variety of things. I’ve done comedy with the film Date Night. In Israel I have done dramatic work. That’s probably a question for the audience…but…I don’t think they see me as only an action star.
